Why Smockingbird's?

Smocking is one of the oldest forms of handstitching.  Originally used to gather the fullness of pieces of fabric, smocking is the placement of decorative stitches on the top of tiny pleats. 

I have been smocking for over 20 years; first smocking for my own children and later smocking for others.  When I decided to open a gift shop, I knew that one of the things that I would offer would be my smocking, so I called the shop "Smockingbird's". 

But i't's so much more than that...

 

In addition to fine, handsmocked children's clothes, I carry a wide selection of unique and affordable gifts such as expressive decor, handmade chocolate and gourmet foods, many of which are made in Missouri, stemware and tabletop accessories, candles, jewelry and bath & body luxuries.  My style is at times fun and whimsical and other times refined. 

At all times, I try to provide the best customer service that I can.
